Maldivian to commence direct flights from New Delhi to Maafaru

Maldivian, the National Carrier of Republic of Maldives, owned and operated by Island Aviation Services Limited (IAS) has commenced operation of direct flights from Maafaru to New Delhi in the first week of November 2021. Currently the flag carrier of Maldives operates 03 flights from Male to Trivandrum, 02 flights from Male to Cochin and 04 flights from Male to Dhaka, Bangladesh.

This new route from Maafaru to New Delhi is operated using A321 & A320 aircrafts, offering both business and economy class configurations on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. 

Maafaru International Airport located in Noonu atoll was opened in 2019 and is also managed by Island Aviation Services Limited (IAS). With 03 weekly direct flights from Maafaru, this international hub of the largest source market will be connected to the Southern Atolls of Maldives from India.

Noonu Atoll consists of, one of the most sought-after luxury resorts in Maldives, along with a large number of guest houses, the region is home to over 10,000 tourist beds spread across four atolls making this new route a highly lucrative leisure market.

With the direct flight, passengers can now make use of this great opportunity to save time and money earlier spent on taking speedboat transfers followed by a domestic flight or a seaplane, in order to reach their final destination.

Bird Travels, the airline management arm of Bird Group is the General Sales Agent (GSA) for Maldivian and are managing their sales and marketing activities in New Delhi.

Speaking on the new route, Vijay Bhatia, President, Bird Group said “We are delighted to launch this new service connecting New Delhi with Maafaru. This direct flight will offer the fastest connection for Indian travelers looking to holiday in North Maldives luxury resorts”.

Maldivian recognizes the inextricable connection between tourism and aviation, and as the country’s flag carrier, it has set its sights on expanding its wings even further to benefit not only tourism in the north of the country, but also the economy of the entire country as a whole. So far this year, the Maldives has welcomed over 50,000 Indian tourists. 

The airline has been providing air transportation between Velana International airport in the Maldives and the domestic airports in the country increasing frequencies to cater for the domestic demand every year and in turn increasing its fleet.
